New Activities to Try on Holiday

There is nothing as thrilling as going on a holiday. Holidays are great for enjoying free days, exploring new places, and spending quality time with relatives and friends.

On the other hand, holidays are also the time to try out new things and pick up new hobbies. Finally, it is the time for you to test new activities.

So, what are some new activities that you could try on holiday? This article is going to highlight some new hobbies that you could try.

Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

Paddleboarding is a great holiday activity. You will need to travel to a nearby body of water to do it for this water sports activity.

For stand-up paddle boarding, you will need a paddleboard or surfboard. You will then put it on the body of water and stand on it.

You will use a paddle to move forward and navigate on the body of water.

If you do not want to stand up, you can choose regular paddleboarding. Regular paddleboarding is done by lying or kneeling on the board.

You put your hands in the water and use regular swimming motions to direct the paddle and move forward.

Both forms of paddle boarding can be done on most bodies of water but make sure that the current is not too strong. Alternatively, if paddle boarding isn’t for you, try kayaking or punting instead.

Casino Gaming

Gaming is a fun and entertaining activity. Why not try gaming during your downtime?

You can choose games with multiplayer modes if you want to invite your family or friends to play. If you want some alone time, choose a single-player gaming mode instead.

There are many great casino games. You can play poker, blackjack, or slots.

A popular slot game to try is Joker Jewels. Players love its fun symbols, joker theme, storyline, and winning combinations.

Why not try it out for yourself to see if you enjoy it as well? You can play this game and other casino games on your mobile device or PC.

Some games are also available on the console if you prefer that type of gaming device

Watch a Film at An Open-Air Cinema or A Drive-In

If you’re travelling during the summer, we recommend going to an open-air or a drive-in cinema.

With open-air cinemas, people sit in front of the screen. These types of cinemas are usually held in parks so people can sit on the grass.

With a drive-in cinema, viewers sit in or near their car. These types of cinemas are much more common in the USA. They’re not very common in Europe and other parts of the world.

The venue’s film selection is great, and all screenings are completely free!

You can watch blockbusters, award-winning films, and classics in the La Villette park. All films are shown in their original language with French subtitles.

Head to the screening of an English-language film for a great open-air cinema experience in Paris. Feel free to bring blankets, food, snacks, and drinks.

The venue also rents out some long chairs if you want extra comfort.

Note that the open-air cinema will not open this summer 2024 due to the Olympics taking place in Paris at the same time. However, it will reopen from 2025 onwards.

If you cannot come to France, look for an open-air or drive-in cinema near you.

Book a Local Workshop Activity

If you are spending your holiday in a new country or region, why not book a local workshop activity?

Some of the most popular workshop activities include:

  • cooking workshops
  • coffee and coffee art classes
  • wine tasting sessions and winemaking workshops
  • pottery and ceramics workshops

We recommend trying activities that are unique to the region you are visiting.

If you have a specific passion or hobby, you can also choose a local workshop around it. For example, if you enjoy gardening, why not try a Japanese gardening workshop?

Try Local Hiking Trails and Nature Walks

Exploring local hiking trails and nature walks is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of your holiday destination.

Whether you’re in the mountains, by the coast, or in a lush forest, hiking offers a unique perspective on the local landscape. It’s a great way to get some exercise while also taking in the sights and sounds of nature.

Many popular holiday destinations offer guided hikes, which can be a great way to learn about the local flora and fauna from an expert. If you prefer a solo adventure, most tourist information centers can provide maps and recommendations for trails suitable for all fitness levels.

For a more immersive experience, consider a multi-day trek with overnight camping. This allows you to truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Don’t forget to pack appropriate gear, including sturdy footwear, a map, plenty of water, and snacks to keep you energized.

Learn a New Water Sport

Learning a new water sport can be an exhilarating addition to your holiday itinerary. Depending on your destination, you might have the opportunity to try surfing, kiteboarding, or scuba diving.

Surfing is a popular choice in coastal regions with good waves, and many places offer beginner lessons with experienced instructors.

Kiteboarding combines elements of surfing, windsurfing, and paragliding, providing an adrenaline-pumping experience. This sport is best learned in locations with steady winds and wide-open beaches.

If you’re drawn to the underwater world, consider taking a scuba diving course. Many tropical destinations offer certification courses that can be completed in just a few days, allowing you to explore vibrant coral reefs and encounter diverse marine life.

Even if you’re not ready for scuba diving, snorkeling is a great way to enjoy underwater sights. For any water sport, safety is paramount, so make sure to choose reputable instructors and use proper equipment.
