Some Mac owners encounter the error message unrusted_cert_title when trying to reinstall macOS. This problem occurs when the Mac’s system clock is not set correctly, and you may face a chicken-and-egg problem: Without a macro program installed, there is no easy way to set the clock that allows you to set the macro program.
To establish a secure connection, many encryption algorithms require a running clock. The encryption system wants to check that the digital certificate that confirms the integrity of the software has not yet expired. If the dates in the certificate were received before the issue date or after the expiration date, the software will lock correctly – and macOS will unfortunately spit out an error, as this feature is not yet included in Mojave.

This error is due to incorrect date and time settings. Apple servers use system time to establish a secure connection. If the system time is not set correctly, the servers block the connection request for security reasons. Simply put, the servers could not verify the operating system certificate due to incorrect system time settings.

Use this method if you no longer have access to an older version of macOS.
- Open Utilities, choose Terminal. Open the terminal via Utilities.
- Type the following command and press Enter:
date - This command displays the current date and time of the system. It may have been reset to 2001 for some reason, so reset it in time. To do this, type the following command and press Enter:
- Date -u [Month] [Day] [Hour] [Minute] [Year]
- A two-digit range based on UTC can be replaced by square brackets. As shown below, this is the current time when you enter this command. U.T.C. is used instead of other time zones to avoid problems. Enter the command exactly like this:
- Date -y 1030011519
- Check the time again by selecting the first command again.
