Top 4 Ways To Fix Windows 10 Tablet Mode Not Working

A laptop or all-in-one computer with a touch screen can be very useful. To navigate your touch-screen computer using only the screen, turn on Windows Tablet mode. It fully optimizes your PC’s screen interface for on-screen use. If you cannot use Tablet mode on your Windows 10 PC, refer to the troubleshooting solutions in this guide.

A minor system error may cause Windows Tablet mode to deviate from its normal operation. This problem may also be related to major technical errors. For example, a deleted or misconfigured registry file can cause tablet mode to stop working. Some users have also reported this problem after the recent installation of the Windows 10 update on their computer. Without wasting any more time on the possible causes of this problem, let’s move on to the solutions.

1. Tablet mode with restart option

As mentioned earlier, sometimes the problem can be caused by a bug in the normal operation of your PC’s Windows 10 operating system. If the computer does not switch to tablet mode after turning on, turn off the computer and turn it on again.

Step one: Tap the icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar to open the Windows Action Center. You can also use the key combination Windows + A.

Step two: Press Tablet mode to turn it off.

Step three: Press the tablet mode again to reactivate it. This may help return tablet mode to normal.

If this tip does not work, try restarting the computer.

2. Reconfiguration mode for tablets

If tablet mode is not turned on (by default) when you turn on your computer, you may need to reconfigure tablet mode. That’s because Microsoft disabled automatic tablet mode in Windows 10 version 18970. If you want your computer to be in tablet mode all the time, you need to set this up manually. Here’s how.

Step one: Open the Windows Settings menu and select System.

Quick tip: Use the key combination Windows + I to quickly open the Windows settings menu.

Step two: Tap Tablet Mode in the left pane to open the Tablet Mode settings menu.

Step three: Tap the drop-down list under When I am online.

Step four: Then select the tablet mode.

By default, Tablet mode should be activated when a PC is connected.

3. Tablet mode required

If none of the above solutions work, you can try forcing tablet mode through the Windows Registry Editor. Follow the steps below to do this.

Message: This method is quite technical, and things can go wrong if you change the file/record incorrectly. We strongly recommend that you backup your PC’s registry files before proceeding with the following steps.

Step one: Start the Run command window with the Windows key + R shortcut.

Step two: Then type regedit in the dialog box and select OK or press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Step three: Copy and paste the folder path shown below into the Registry Editor navigation panel and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionImmersiveShell

Step four: Right-click on TabletMode and select Edit.

If you cannot find TabletMode in this directory, go to step 5. If not, go to step 9.

Step 5: Right-click on an empty spot in the window and select New.

Step six: Then choose D-WORD value (32 bits).

Seventh step: Rename the newly created value to TabletMode.

Step 8: Now right-click on TabletMode and select Edit.

Step 9: Change the value date to 1 and press OK.

Finally, activate tablet mode in the action center and check that the feature now works. If the problem is not solved, go to the next solution.

4. Updating Windows

Some Windows 10 users whose tablet mode has stopped responding have been able to restore this feature on their computers by installing a Windows update. If this problem is caused by a bug in the version of Windows 10 running on your computer, it’s best to upgrade your computer to a bug-free version of Windows. Go to Settings > Updates and Security > Windows Update and download any available updates.

If you find that Windows 10 Tablet Mode no longer works after a recent operating system update, you should revert to the previous version or build of Windows from which you performed the update.
