iPhone notifications – they’re usually the pain of our existence, but the truth is, sometimes you just need to notice them right away. The problem with notifications is that we get so many of them each day that we become so accustomed to them that we begin to ignore them.
Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing if they’re just Snapchat or Instagram notifications, but what about the important ones? What if you miss an important work email? Or an email from your doctor scheduling your next appointment? Notifications such as those ones must be noticeable, and you shouldn’t allow them to get lost in the sea of the unimportant ones. But, how do you do that?
Fortunately, there is more than one way for you to achieve that, and we’re going to share them with you. Let’s begin.
How To Fix Non-Appearing Notifications On An iPhone
Before we get into customizing and making some notifications more noticeable than the others, let’s first tackle the problem of non-showing notifications. The reasons for notifications not showing up on your iPhone can be various, and more often than not, a simple fix is all it takes to get your phone back to normal, so let’s start there.
1. Restart Your iPhone

Probably the best problem solver in the world – the good old restart fix. Sometimes, your phone will start misbehaving without any apparent reason, and if that happens, the best thing is to restart it and allow it to handle its glitches and malfunctions on its own. This trusted method might fix a lot of issues, including the no-show notifications.
2. Check Your Internet
You wouldn’t believe how often people don’t remember the check the basics before they start panicking. Sometimes, the reason your email, Instagram, or Twitter notifications aren’t appearing is because your phone is not connected to the internet. Hop back online, and they’ll come back right away.
Another internet-related thing that could help is turning your cellular and Wi-Fi connections on and off. This would be a restart-like kind of a fix, only limited to your internet connections.
3. Check Do Not Disturb

Mistaps, misclicks and ghost-clicks happen way more often than we realize, especially if we have sweaty hands. Now, that usually only results in an accidental letter while we’re texting, but sometimes it could happen while you’re in the drop-down (or pop-up, iPhone 7 and older) menu and check the crescent moon icon. If the moon is violet and the icon is white – the Do Not Disturb is on, and that’s why your notifications aren’t showing up.
4. Check Notification Settings
Finally, you can just go into Settings and modify your Notifications settings. You should see the red Notifications icon right in the middle of the screen.
Once you enter Notification settings, there are plenty of things to do right here. If you simply have a problem with an app or two, scroll down and find them, click on the banner with their name and just toggle the Allow Notifications on.
Some apps have dedicated notification settings inside the app itself, so if you have problems with any of those, you may want to check the app settings first.
5. Reset All Settings

Your last resort would be to Reset All Settings. We wouldn’t really recommend doing this if you haven’t exhausted all your other options, but if you have – you may try this. Doing this resets all settings to default, so you will have to go back tinker with the ones you want personalized once again. However, if this quick fix manages to fix your notifications problem – it’s worth it.
How To Customize Notifications On An iPhone To Make Them More Noticeable
Now, let’s talk about something a bit different. Sometimes being noticed isn’t about just appearing but about standing out from the crowd. So, let’s take a look at how you can customize notifications to make them more noticeable.
1. Change The Notification Sounds

Many apps, unfortunately not all of them, can be customized by changing the alert sound. For instance, you can change the alert sound for the Messages app. Naturally, you’ll want to avoid changing your alert sound to one of the system default ones because that’ll just blend in with the others. Instead, look for some custom alerts – the ones that actually stand out. For example, Notification-Sounds.com has an extensive catalogue of unique, uncommon sound effects that you can use.
The way you do this is you go to Settings, Notifications, and you find an app that you want to customize, click on it, and under the Notification Style, you’ll find the sound option. Click on it and choose your new notification alert sound.
2. Scheduled Summary
Notification not appearing can actually be a good thing. You won’t be distracted, and you’ll be able to focus on your work, and once you’re done – you’ll be able to just look at all of your notifications at once. To make this happen, you’ll have to go into Settings, Notifications and tap on Scheduled Summary and turn it on. Then, you’ll select the apps you want to show in your summary, set a summary delivery time, and that’s it. All of the important notifications that you might’ve received will appear in one place at the same time. In other words – you won’t be able to miss them.
3. Mute ‘Em

This might sound like the opposite of what we’re trying to do here but hear us out. Mute the notifications that don’t mean anything to you and are only distracting you. That way, when you actually hear that notification sound, you’ll know that it is something important, and you’ll check your phone and stay on top of everything.
Naturally, the way you do this is by going to Settings, Notifications, finding an app that annoys you and toggling off the Allow Notifications toggle. That’s it.
4. LED Flash For Alerts
We wouldn’t suggest you do this unless you really have to because you’ll look like grade-A douche with this feature enabled, but if you really have to, you can have your iPhone’s camera flash act up every time you receive a message, notification or a phone call. Go to Settings, Accessibility, Audio/Visual, and turn on LED Flash for Alerts.
